cocoAsplell works for me in OS X 10.6.5 (I'm using its Oxford spelling dictionary) except that on rare occasions NWP complains: cannot connect to the spell checker or something alike.

For many languages, hunspell dictionary seems to be the same as that of aspell used by cocoApell. So if you don't need special features supplied by the latter, hunspell dictionaries would be better, more stable at least.
