If you have not tried hunspell dictionaries...

1. Download <http://hunspell.sourceforge.net/is_IS.zip>;
2. Unzip it;
3. Put 'is_IS.aff' and 'is_IS.dic' in /Users/you/Library/Spelling/;
   (Create 'Spelling' folder if you don't have it.)
4. Open System Preferences => Language & Text => Text and choose 'Íslenska (Library)'.

You can use it in NWP too.
