February 2008− (North Branford, CT) - SANS Inc., Software and Network
Solutions, the developer and exclusive licensor of Sony language learning
software solutions, is pleased to announce the SANS 2008, SANSSpaceTM
Technology Grant Program. This comprehensive grant is available for eligible
Senior High Schools, Colleges, and Universities in the U.S. and Canada. The
announcement was made by Ron Remschel, President of SANS Inc.
The SANSSpace Virtual Learning Environment is an innovative, web based
software application, designed to manage and share multimedia course
material, track student activity, and provide synchronous and asynchronous
communication. It has been designed specifically for language learning
applications, and features a built-in, digital comparative recorder with which
students can engage in communicative audio-based activities. They can listen,
record, compare, and save their work anytime, anywhere that they have
access to an internet connection.
The SANSSpace functionality encourages an open learning environment,
unencumbered by time and/or space, where individual student work as well as
interactive communication is optimized. Each student's activity and progress in
the core language learning skills are tracked, and can be reviewed and
measured to enhance development. In keeping with the particular needs of
language learning, SANSSpace tracks not only who is online, when and for how
long, but also what file is being accessed, while it monitors the interaction
with the material.
The Senior High School/College/University that is awarded the grant will
receive enough SANSSpace software licenses to accommodate the needs of
their language program(s). The installation of this software will also be
arranged and paid for by SANS Inc. and handled by a SANS representative. In
addition, SANS will also provide up to 100 SANS headsets to use with the
SANSSpace software.
All public and private, accredited, not for profit, Senior High Schools,
Colleges,
and Universities with world language programs, English as a Second Language,
(ESL) and/or American Sign Language, (ASL) programs located in the United
States and Canada are eligible to apply.
According to Ron Remschel, President of SANS Inc., "There are many VLE
applications in use today. Until now, not many have been as focused on the
unique requirements of language learning like the solutions provided by
SANSSpace VLE software. The software was implemented to project the same
learning opportunities available on campus, but now into the community, via
internet access. This is typically done via a portal on the school's home page,
providing an 'anyone, anytime, anywhere' learning paradigm."
In addition to the completion of a formal application, the applicant from an
institution will be required to provide a narrative of up to 1,000 words
describing: how you would implement the SANSSpace VLE to positively impact
your language program(s); how you envision the ability for your students to
engage in this "anytime, anywhere" interactive language learning environment;
and if you currently have a physical language lab, how you feel that the
SANSSpace technology will augment that instructional learning environment.
Applications must be received by SANS Inc. on or before April 30, 2008.
Incomplete or late applications will be disqualified. The grant recipient will
be
chosen by May 30, 2008. For more information on submitting an application,
interested parties are invited to go to:
