Hi Lisa,

I'm very interested to see what other labs do, but here is a checklist that
I give mine every year.  We go through it together, and I check off each
item as I see that they have mastered it.

*    WORK STUDY TRAINING CHECKLIST*



MISSION OF THE E.L. KELLERMAN LANGUAGE LAB:



Our mission is to enable professors and students to meet their language
technology needs.  This takes many forms: helping a student make an audio
recording, recording a foreign language program from the satellite, helping
a professor, put together a video project, or video-taping a class.



KNOW HOW TO DO THE FOLLOWING THINGS:



_______Turn the big screen off and on in Gailor Auditorium and Sympodium in
LL



_______Show a DVD on the big screen.



_______Show a VHS tape on the big screen.



_______Display the laptop on the screen.



_______Safely replace and check out Macbooks and iPads from the laptop cart.



_______Help people find their lab work. (Blackboard, LRC’s website,
textbook website)



_______Make a recording on Garage Band, Voice Record Pro and convert it to
an MP3.



_______Turn off and on the Smartboard monitors and computers.



_______Use the color scanner and send emails with printer.



_______Clear paper jams in photocopier.



_______Set up Rosetta Stone



_______Opening and Closing the Language Lab and Gailor



_______How to find and use Yabla/Lo Mas TV



_______How to use the tripod and video camera to record classes and lectures





REMINDERS:



   - The staff needs to be as welcoming and helpful as possible.  Go out of
   your way to help.  If a student has forgotten his/her lab manual, offer
   to lend them one from a professor’s office. If there is something, you
   cannot do, write down the request (in front of the client) and assure them
   that you will pass it on to the ATS (Academic Technology Services) staff.



   - You are responsible for filling out your timesheets on Banner after
   each shift.



   - You are responsible for finding a replacement if you can’t make it to
   work.  Please take home a phone list so that you can easily find a
   replacement or check online.  If you have tried everyone on the list and
   no one can work for you, then call me.



   - Please don’t eat in the Language Lab and remind others not to eat in
   there.



   - When someone walks in, put down your homework.  Ask how you can help
   them.  If they are using the Sanako system, make sure that they know how
   to use the panel.  Give them the flyer that goes with it.



   - Only professors can take laptops and iPads out of the lab, and they
   must sign the checkout log.  Keep the laptop cart locked at all times.  Make
   sure the laptop is completely shut down before moving it.  Keep the cart
   locked at all times.



   - Call the police at 598-1111 if there’s ever a situation that seems out
   of hand to you or if you want to be escorted out of the building at night.



   - Check the binder if you have any questions about what to do.  New
   assignments will be put in there each week or so.
   - When the phone rings, answer it by saying, "Language Resource Center,
   may I help you?"







CLOSING UP:

-Shut down all computers and turn off everything. Return Macbooks to their
cart and plug them into charge
