Advertisement for Language and Cultural Exchange (LACE) Intern
2013-2014 Academic Year
Hours: Five to ten hours/week at $8.50/hour - Hours will be longer towards the beginning of the term and be relatively few towards the end
LACE is a program that began in the Spring Term of 2010. It is designed to facilitate language and cultural exchange between international students and students interested in learning more about a foreign culture/language. LACE is supported by International Student Programs-Office of Pluralism and Leadership (ISP-OPAL).
The role of the LACE Intern will be to:
* Develop and maintain a student participant database
* Match international students and native English speaking students
* Correspond with program participants
* Troubleshoot ineffective LACE matches
* Organizing a social event for participants each term
* Create and maintain the text for the LACE webpage
* Advertise the program
* Survey LACE participants at the end of the term
* Write a brief (one page) report at the end of the program
Required skills:
* Strong organizational abilities
* Ability to communicate effectively
* Interest in cross cultural cooperation and communication
* Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and online interfaces such as Dropbox and Google Documents
* Knowledge of the Dartmouth College Update System (OmniUpdate) - If this system is unfamiliar to you, you will need to schedule some time in the term to learn the basic use of the program.
How to apply:
* Respond via blitz with one paragraph responses to the following questions:
1. Why would you like to be the LACE student intern for the '13-'14 academic year?
2. What would you bring to this position?
3. Explain some of your ideas to increase involvement in the program and how you would implement them.
* Blitz applications are due by Friday, March 21st. at 11:59pm.
* Interviews for the LACE internship position will be held as early as Monday, March 24th.
