There are a couple of minor drawbacks to the use of the keyboard shortcuts that come with the "Scripts" menu:
  (1) You're limited to 10 of them.
  (2) They require the use of combinations of keys (unlike, say, the F6 key).

These aren't deal-breakers, but they do tend to slow down a keyboard-intensive procedure somewhat.

Let me suggest a peek at QuicKeys, which allows you to program certain actions to be done by keystrokes that you can specify. These keystrokes can be specific to particular applications, so that the F6 key would behave differently (if you so desired) in FileMaker vs. Word vs. Excel vs. your e-mail program.
