Hi Deb and Steve,

There is a very cool music event coming to the Dartmouth Green next Sunday
evening, Fathers Day, June 21. An international group of world class
trumpeters is assembling for an outdoor concert, celebrating the summer
solstice, Fathers Day, and the 10th anniversary of the Center for Advanced
Musical Studies, Trumpet Seminar. I have been a board member since the
beginning. Ed Carroll, world renown trumpet master and faculty member at
Cal Arts and Dartmouth College is the founder of the program and Hanover
resident. This program has been going on mostly behind the scenes at the
Shaker Museum complex in Enfield over the last ten summers. Check out the
website at chosenvale.org.

With the convergence next Sunday Ed wanted to do something special to mark
the occasion. He commissioned one of his colleagues to adapt an outdoor
trumpet concert that was originally performed in Zurich. Here is a little
background on the music:

    *Trumpet City <http://www.onfootproductions.org/trumpetcity>, *a live
installation of 40 trumpets on the Hanover Green by Craig Shepard

   - *Date:* Sunday, June 21st
   - *Time:* 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm (one-hour piece)
   - *Location: *The Green at Dartmouth College, Hanover, NH
   - *Music:* Craig Shepard's Trumpet City
   - *Price:* Free
   - *Performed by:* Chosen Vale International Trumpet Seminar

   - *Director:* Edward Carroll

*"It sounds like hugs and kisses." -- Leon Meicht, 4 years old*

*Trumpet City: Hanover* celebrates the longest day of the year with a
one-hour sounding of 40 trumpets surrounding The Green in Hanover, New
Hampshire. Beginning at 7:00 pm, trumpet virtuoso Edward Carroll leads 40
participants of the Chosen Vale Trumpet Seminar in a realization of Craig
Shepard's *Trumpet City*.

Listeners will enjoy the sunset on the summer solstice with a stroll around
the green, immersed in the soft tones of the trumpets. The melody begins in
the low range of the trumpet, blending with the sounds of traffic on nearby
Route 10A. Over the course of the hour, the trumpets rise out of this
drone, rising as the sun begins to set.

Trumpet City was commissioned by the Musikpodium of the City of Zurich, has
been realized with 92 trumpets on the NYC DOT's Summer Streets program
August 2nd, 2014, presented by Dampfzentrale Bern on the banks of the Aare
River in Switzerland August 2013, and performed on Lake Zurich in March
2009.

*About the artists**:*

Wandelweiser <http://www.wandelweiser.de/> composer *Craig Shepard*
<http://www.onfootproductions.org/about/> makes music related to stillness.
Growing up in Connecticut, he would go for long walks in the middle of
snowy nights, stopping to listen to the sheen of millions of snowflakes
hitting the ground. Recent projects include *On Foot: Brooklyn*, a 91-day,
780-mile walking project in New York. He lives in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.

Edward Carroll <http://edwardcarrollmusic.com/bio/> is Director of the
Center for Advanced Musical Studies, and is on the faculties of Dartmouth
College, the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), and Bard
Conservatory of Music. He has served as Principal Trumpet for the Rotterdam
Philharmonic and the San Diego Symphony, and has performed with the London
Sinfonietta, the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, and many others.
The Washington Post says: "Edward Carroll is one of the finest trumpeters
of our day."

The Center for Advanced Musical Studies
<http://www.chosenvale.org/seminars.html> at Chosen Vale is a place for
talented musicians who share the mutual goals of exploring their personal
voice and expanding their artistic capacities. Over the course of the
week-long seminars, participants live, dine, rehearse, and develop
together. The music performed on the 21st grows out of this communal
experience.

I think this would be memorable especially for kids and young musicians,
and a great way to celebrate Father’s Day. Maybe I will see you there.

Ted
