Despite ample sunshine, blustery winds blowing across the fields and water from the direction of Mt. Ascutney made for less than optimal conditions. With gusts sometimes reaching 25 mph, the Canada geese on site hugged the pond's lee under the southern bluffs while the few passerines evident stayed in the brush and thickets.
Canada geese were the morning's big story with two large flocks on hand. The first numbered approximately 175 individuals. The second was smaller containing perhaps 85 geese. They were joined by a solitary American black duck. No other waterfowl were evident.
