On Saturday, 12 June, a small group of birders started out on a Tour
des Birds for the AMAS service area. Although we had a strong start,
moderate rain starting around 0930 hrs made the birds and us run for
cover, bringing the day to a premature end. In the 3.5 hours of
birding, we recorded 53 birds from 3.5 sites.

Locations birded:
E.Camp Hill Road, Weathersfield
Lake Runnemede / Paradise Park, Windsor
Marsh and fields at the intersection of Hunt and Marton Roads, Windsor
Parts of the Windsor Prison Fields, Windsor

Pickings were a bit slim as we were just getting into some good
habitat when the skies opened up. However, we picked up 10 species
of warblers, including a Louisiana Waterthrush feeding young along
the stream through the upper part of Paradise Park (pumphouse
entrance), an American Bittern, lots of snipe at he Hunt Road
intersection, and a Savannah Sparrow at the prison fields.

We ran into some birders from Oregon and Windsor who got the the
prison fields before the rains. They saw the Blue-winged Warbler at
he orchard. They also reported the Grasshopper Sparrow near the tree
island on the right of the field access road across from Pond Road.
We could not confirm it due to the rains. They also reported a
possible Cerulean Warbler, but were not certain enough to report it.
I have no details on this one.

In pre-Tour birding the previous weekends, we had three Mourning (two
singing), Black-throated Blue, and Balckburnian Warblers, six Barred
Owls (four fledglings with a mix of down and feathers), and a singing
Winter Wren at the end of E. Camp Hill Road; a Prairie and a Canada
Warbler along Skyline Drive in Weathersfield; and several Great
Crested Flycatchers, including an immature.
