Just after everyone had left and after we walked up the road a bit with
George, we went back to our car and drove slowly along the main Beaver pond.
A female Mallard and her 9 ducklings appeared, along with a Female Hooded
Merganser and her brood. Looked like 3-4 ducklings. They all climbed up on a
favorite birch log in the water, with the little ones tucked safely under
Mom. Two days ago I saw 2 Hooded families there- one with 4 ducklings and
one with 12, plus two additional "single" females. The Mallards look newly
hatched. There was a family of Mallards there a week or so with older
ducklings, not seen on this trip.

Most enjoyable adventure despite the rain- many thanks to George Clark and
kudos to Spencer Hardy with a "Eagle Eye". ;)
