Four hardy souls managed to find 37 species on our wet walk among the
rolling meadows of Hayes Farm Park and the swampy forest of the Trescott
Wetlands in Etna.
We caught a glimpse of a prairie warbler, a species we've found in past
springs at this location. Other warblers included ovenbird,
black-and-white, northern parula, pine, yellow-rumped and black-throated
green.
Blue-headed vireos, brown creepers, a purple finch and a wood thrush
provided nice song on a dreary morning. My thanks to David Merker for
co-leading.
Our next Hanover Conservancy bird walk is May 20, to the newly conserved
Hudson Farm where bobolinks and savannah sparrows breed. Stay tuned.
