This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Monday, August 3rd,
2015.
A WILSON’S PHALAROPE and a PECTORAL SANDPIPER were seen at the Exeter
Wastewater Treatment Facility on August 1st. A PECTORAL SANDPIPER was
reported from coastal Rye on July 29th.
A RED KNOT was seen in Hampton Harbor on August 1st, and 2 RUDDY TURNSTONES
were seen here on July 29th. Other shorebirds species reported from the
coast during the past week included small numbers of WHIMBREL, PIPING
PLOVER, BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, and WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER.
A pair of LEAST TERNS is nesting on the beach in Hampton Beach State Park,
where they were seen with a chick on July 31st. 4 more LEAST TERNS were seen
in Hampton Harbor on August 1st.
4 FORSTER’S TERNS were seen in Hampton Harbor on August 2nd.
A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was seen along the coast on August 1st.
An immature LITTLE BLUE HERON, 86 SNOWY EGRETS, 110 GREAT EGRETS, 23
BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS, 9 GLOSSY IBIS, and 45 GREAT BLUE HERONS were
reported from the coast on August 1st. A GLOSSY IBIS was seen in Rochester
on July 28th.
A LEAST BITTERN, 2 SORAS and a VIRGINIA RAIL were seen at World End Pond in
Salem on August 2nd.
3 SANDHILL CRANES were seen behind the cemetery on Plains Road in Monroe on
July 23rd and 27th, and again on August 1st.
At least 2 pairs of MISSISSIPPI KITES have nested in Newmarket this year and
there is currently at least 1 youngster. The KITES have been seen flying
near Gonet Road in Newmarket, and 1 has been reported on multiple occasions
from Piscasssic Street. The most recent report was on August 2nd.
4 RED CROSSBILLS and a WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILL were reported from Lake
Umbagog National Wildlife Refuge on July 28th, and 29th.
3 BOREAL CHICKADEES were reported from East Branch Road in the Nash Stream
State Forest on July 31st. A BAY–BREASTED WARBLER and an OLIVE-SIDED
FLYCATCHER were seen on nearby Columbia Brook Road on July 31st.
A SPRUCE GROUSE was seen along the Mount Washington Auto Road on July 29th.
An EVENING GROSBEAK was seen in Walpole on August 1st.
A colony of 13 pairs of PURPLE MARTINS is nesting along Cross Beach Road in
Seabrook and 23 individuals were observed on August 1st.
98 CHIMNEY SWIFTS were seen entering a chimney to roost for the night in
Orford on July 30th.
