Are you interested in doing some early December birding *and* supporting
one of the Upper Valley's premier non-profits? If so, join a birding walk
at the Wilder Dam this Saturday morning, December 9. As one of many
activities for "The 19 Days of Norwich, 1% for the Haven", I'll meet anyone
who is interested for 90 minutes (or so) of leisurely birding. We'll
convene at 9:00 am in the parking lot just above the Wilder Dam, south of
and across from the playing fields. From there, we'll stroll down to the
dam, where you'll have a good chance to glimpse one or more Bald Eagles,
which are reliable year-round residents there. We'll also look for
waterfowl and any other birds in the area. We'll walk from the dam up to
Kilowatt South park (with a chance for more waterfowl and landbirds such as
Northern Mockingbirds and late sparrows [I had a N. Flicker there
yesterday]), and, if time allows, do some feeder watching along Passumpsic
Avenue, wrapping up by ~10:30.

This walk is geared to birders of all ages and levels. But, you do need to
be willing to offer a contribution to the Haven - we suggest a minimum
donation of $10. Please make sure to dress warmly, with a hat and gloves,
and wear warm, waterproof boots. The weather forecast now is reasonable,
with partly sunny skies and temps in the mid-20s F, but we all know that
could change, so be prepared for worse. If you have binoculars, bring
them. If you don't, no worries, we'll share.

I hope to see some of you in Wilder next Saturday morning!

Chris
