Just in case... you are thinking about travel to distant lands.

 

My wife, Lelia had work at Squaw Valley, CA.think 1960 winter Olympics. Near
Lake Tahoe (deepest is 1650').

 

I had to go to help with bag handling and chauffer duties.  And Bird guide.
I birded some miscellaneous places using all my eBird talents. (which so far
are limited)

 

80 species in about 4 days.  Here are a some in order of appearance.
Weather was ok.  Hiked around Donner Pass. And hour from Sacramento, and the
Truckee area.

 

                Also rode the tram to the height on Squaw.  Super views.snow
capped peaks, L Tahoe, and a Horned Lark and pair of Mtn
Bluebirds...stunning.

 

CA Scrub Jays

Stellar's Jay (common) C.

BB Magpie

Brewer's Blackbirds  C

Am. Avocet  2

Mtn Chickadee   C

DE Juncos.. C.   Oregon race.

Fox Sparrow.. ~9   western race. Pretty different than ours.

Yellow-r Warblers.  C.   these were the "Audubon" race.. awesome yellow
throat.

Orange-c Warblers  3

Wilson's W    1

Hutton's Vireo  1   a first

Cassin's Vireo  3.    A first.

Pacific Wren.  a first.. the above 2 were also in this mixed forest, w/
wooded stream. Similar to our Winter.

Bl.headed Grosbeak.. 5

Spotted Towhee  ~8

Green Towhee  2

Nashville Warbler  2

Bullock's Oriole  2

Acorn Woodpecker   3.  Spiffy.

White-headed Woodpecker.   Way cool.  A first.

Bushtit.  2    Found a nest.. way cool..

Cassin's Finch.  3  (1 male)   a first.

Western Grebe  ~60

Clark's Grebe   1     breeding plum.  A first.

Eared Grebe.   14  nice breeding plume.

Rock Wren.   singing in full view...wren's have such great songs.

CA Towhee. 

BG Gnatcatcher.

CA  Quail   60

Anna's, Caliope and Bl. chinned Hummers.

Mtn Bluebirds  pair. stunning.

CA Gull.

 

Always good to come home..we do have some great birds !   not their
spectacular trees however.
