Since Wednesday the 26th we've had a pair of Scaups, male & female, in our
pond up here on the Thetford/Strafford border. They've given us plenty of
opportunity for close looks, despite the weather, and after careful
observation followed by periodic retreats to the kitchen table for coffee
and consultation with guidebooks, we've concluded (from the shape of the
head) that they're Greater Scaups. They have the pond to themselves and are
making the most of it.
