We’ve had a lot of Barred owl chat through the nights. This morning I finally heard their famous “laughing” call. It was stunning. I was outside listening as the pair were within 30 feet of my house, calling and flying back and forth. Then the laugh! If you’ve never heard it, there are some good recordings on youtube. If I’d never heard the recordings, I would never had guessed it was an owl: perhaps a crow, but more like a monkey.

Add that to watching a Blue Jay feeding in the yard whistling like a Red Tail and my day is complete.

Nancy
