I have been watching and feeding Hummers here in Enfield Center
for years. Currently I have at least one adult female and several young at my
feeders. They are at the window feeders more during rainy weather.
I have not seen a male for several days.
I seem to have had fewer mating pairs this year.
My understanding is that the males leave in late August. I have had females
and young at my feeders as late as Sept. 23rd. They may have been migrants.
Although I am not close to the Connecticut River flyway, I am closer to I 89 which
I have always thought to be a flyway southeast to the coast.
I am always concerned about the weather as the migrate. ( IRMA!!!) I hope they
hunker down and are able to find food sources after Irma passes.
My understanding is that they are in their wintering grounds by Thanksgiving.
