Had a great day birding in the Upper and "Upper, Upper" Valley today. I
started by birding with some new and old friends at Depot Road (see Bill S.
Post). Moved over to New Hampshire (not much notable), but finished the day
up in McIndoe Falls with two of the three Sandhill Cranes that bred last
year in Monroe, NH. A bit concerning to not see the "colt" around. I don't
think it would have a red crown yet, so I think these are the parents:
https://www.flickr.com/photos/mt_cube/16992779368/ I found them by walking
across the hayfield behind the McIndoe Falls post office and looking down
into a smaller hayfield by the river. They can also often be found a bit
north of Monroe village in a large field, or sometimes on the cornfields of
Plains Road. A scope is useful or necessary.
