A male Common Grackle today here in the backyard in Norwich village
provided my first sighting of the year for that species. Also present
among the 16 species around the yard today were 7 male Red-winged
Blackbirds, up from a count of 2 yesterday.

Other yard birds today included 5 White-throated Sparrows, presumably
part of the group which has been present through the winter.

This morning in Norwich village, Carolina Wrens were singing in three
well separated locations.

Also this morning, a male Northern Cardinal, engaged in a not
infrequent kind of territorial behavior, was attacking his own
reflection in the outside rear view mirrors on both sides of a car
parked in an Elm Street driveway.
