This is the Vermont Rare Bird Alert for January 22, 2007 covering the period
January 15 - 21, 2007.

 

            Highlights this week include a HARLEQUIN DUCK spotted off
Shelburne Point feeding among a group of COMMON GOLDENEYES on 1/18, a
YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER seen in Woodstock on 1/20 after a two week absence and
a female EASTERN TOWHEE observed at a feeder near Stratton Mt. on 1/20, 21
and 22.

 

            Two GREAT BLUE HERONS were seen at Shelburne Bay on 1/19 and one
was spotted near Centennial Woods in Burlington on 1/21.

 

             NORTHERN HARRIER sightings were numerous, with the most unusual
sighting taking place in Brattleboro on 1/20.

 

            A SHORT-EARED OWL was seen in Addison on 1/14 and on Grand Isle
on 1/15.

 

            RED-BELLIED WOODPECKERS were sighted in Poultney, Mt. Tabor and
Charlotte this week.

 

            A NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen several times during the week in
Waitsfield.

 

            CAROLINA WREN sightings are becoming more and more common, with
individuals seen in Woodstock (2), East Dorset (1), White River Junction
(1), Delta Park (2), Brattleboro (2), Bennington (1), Saxton's River (2) and
Winhall (1) this week.

 

            A FOX SPARROW was observed in West Brattleboro on 1/20.

 

            A male RED-WINGED BLACKBIRD appeared at a feeder in Charlotte on
1/16 and a COMMON GRACKLE was sighted in South Burlington on 1/20.
