To diagnose bugs, the best approach is to choose Help > Send Feedback and send Nisus a copy the problematic document.

(Should Nisus rename this menu item to clarify it's for troubleshooting bugs as well as general feedback?)

Same advice, and one addition:  Launch the Console program (in Applications > Utilities) and look for any error messages at the time of slowdown.  It may be Nisus, or it may be something else like Time Machine.
