------------------
I was in a room recently that was large (about the size you're talking about), and equipped with expensive/fancy CRT projectors. What they used was an LCD projector they had brought in because it was so much sharper than the CRT. They were doing computer stuff, but...

Our experience is that the CRT's require regular and very qualified maintenance to keep them in focus, etc. The LCDs are always sharp and crisp, but they can lose brightness as the bulbs begin to get old. Replacement bulbs for LCDs are not cheap (often around $500 each). But the initial savings along with the sharp and crisp more than compensate.

I know this doesn't address the issue of video in a large room, but I know we use video with an LCD projector in a medium sized room (where one would see the pixels more clearly) and instructors love it.

One final thought... any dealer really wanting to sell you a unit would bring it and let you see how it looks. Try it out first.

Good luck!

------------------
We are considering replacing a three-gun projector w/ an lcd.
The room the projector is in is a large one, seating 325, and the
projector will be used roughly 70% for video and 30% for data.
My sense is that in that large a room, and with use being mostly for
video, the CRT projector would really be called for, but the pricing of
the lcd projectors make them most attractive to others on this project.
I know lcds are marvelous, but this is a showcase room, and we really need
excellent video there.
Can an lcd really deliver video in that large a space as well as a crt
can?
(I know what the salesmen say, but I wonder what you all
think.)
Thanks,
Ed
