There's a lot of good information in this discussion thread. Just wanted to add, from prior experience managing a dual-boot (Mac OS/Win7) computer lab that served language departments, the following headphones were cost-effective, durable, and provided consistent results on Apple hardware running both Win7 and Mac OS X operating systems: Logitech B530 USB Connector Supra-aural Headset (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826104572). One thing that stood out for the B530's at that price point (<$40) is that the microphone had noise-cancelling technology (which provided for good sound recording quality in most circumstances). Hope this helps some.
Sincerely,
MICHAEL SAMOJLIK
