Workshop: Wrangling Data in to Maps & GIS Software

Want to learn how to wrangle data in maps and GIS software? Come to
Research Computing’s mapping and GIS workshop on Monday, January 30th,
2017 from 2:00pm – 3:30pm in the 37 Dewey Field Road Instructional
Center (first floor) to learn more. We’ll use various tools to bring
datasets in mapping and GIS software, and make a map for presentation
using the data with existing map base layers. We will also discuss
sources of geospatial data and digital map making techniques.

No experience is necessary to attend this Research Computing workshop.

* Ethics Facilitator Training *

Ethics Facilitator Training

The Graduate and Advanced Studies in collaboration with the Ethics
Institute at Dartmouth developed an institution-wide program of training
in the basics of professional ethics for first year graduate students.
The Graduate Ethics Program has three components: an opening session
during orientation, four small group discussions on focal topics to be
taken fall term of the first year of graduate school, and an online
ethics survey.

For the second phase of the Ethics program, Aine Donovan, Executive
Director of the Ethics Institute at Dartmouth College offers a four-part
ethics training session focusing on key ethical issues to train future
Ethics Facilitators.

Graduate students, postdocs, administrators, and faculty who attend the
sessions will gain skills in case style teaching methods and develop a
framework for thinking about ethical issues that occur in research.
Those who attend the training sessions will then facilitate four ethics
workshops for a small group of first year students in the fall of 2017.
Trainers will receive $50 per facilitated session.

If you are interested in the Training for Trainers please email Kerry
Landers a brief statement of interest in teaching ethics and a copy of
your cv/resume by Jan 16. Also, please sign-up on libcal at http://libcal.dartmouth.edu/event/2897471

Trainers are expected to attend all the workshops listed below for the
2017 winter term.

The facilitator training sessions are on the following dates in the
Ethics Institute conference room:

Diversity and Professionalism, Tuesday, February 7, 2-4 pm

Mentoring, Tuesday, February 14, 2-4 pm

Authorship/Peer Review, Tuesday, February 21, 2-4 pm

Data Collection, Tuesday, February 28, 2-4 pm

this 5-part (6 session) workshop series, graduate students and postdocs
will be introduced to educational literature, basic elements of course
design, and different instructional methods. Participants will also have
a chance to practice teaching and to evaluate teaching by others.
Participants are expected to attend all sessions and do work between
sessions. ***Please register for each week!***

* Fellowship in molecular pathology- DHMC *

From: Aaron E. Atkinson

Subject: Fellowship in molecular patholgoy

Hello!

I’m sure there are area graduate students with fine skills in molecular
biology that would appreciate a fellowship at DHMC in molecular
pathology. Could you forward this email and, or attachment to any email
lists for graduate students, especially those near completing their
requirements?

As discussed in the enclosure the fellowship is a great opportunity for
patient-focused molecular diagnostics for cancer and infectious disease.
There is also a lot of exposure to regulatory needs and requirements
that offer further professional development.

I’m happy to field any questions etc.

Funded by the Latham French Foundation, this two year post-doctoral
program allows PhD scien sts to transi on into a clinically-focused
career path. The program takes place with a world-renowned faculty in
the department’s state-of-the-art Clinical Genomics and Advanced
Technology (CGAT) Laboratory.
The CGAT Laboratory, directed by Dr. Gregory Tsongalis, performs a vast
array of DNA- and RNA- based tes ng that supports various clinical
services throughout the Dartmouth-Hitchcock healthcare system as well as
a wide range of ongoing research programs. Fellows gain experience
working in a clinical laboratory se ng where gene c, infec ous disease,
oncology and hematology tes ng is performed using a variety of PCR,
real- me PCR, microarray and next-genera on sequencing pla orms.
Fellows train on clinical tests during their rst year while receiving
increasing responsibili es related to the opera on and oversight of a
clinical molecular laboratory. This training includes par cipa on in the
development and valida on of clinical laboratory- developed tests,
reviewing molecular reports before sign-out, and preparing quality and
pro ciency tes ng data to meet the various regulatory needs of the
laboratory according to standards set by CLIA and the College of
American Pathologists. While the main focus of this training program is
clinical molecular tes ng, a signi cant por on of this two year
fellowship will be spent on independent and collabora ve research.
Fellows are expected to demonstrate academic produc vity by publishing
in peer-reviewed journals and assis ng in the educa on of technologists,
residents and other fellows through presentaions at various lectures
series as well as one-on-one instruc on for other trainees rota ng
through the laboratory.
Applicants should email a CV, cover le er and references to Drs. Joel
Lefferts and Gregory Tsongalis at: [log in to unmask]
