Well, it's your responsibility as the developer to set it up to make it easy for them to do this. For example, YOU are responsible for determining what fields they'll be able to filter by, and to provide them with the means to specify them easily:



And YOU have to provide them with the ability to quickly specify a valid value to search for in that field:



Note that the "Specify Value" pick list is dynamic. As your users add values to ANY of the searchable fields, the values automatically get added to the pick list.

If you poke around under the covers of the example file I sent you, you'll see how I went about doing this.
