Hi all,

It's election year and one of the most important and least understood topics is the Affordable Care Act. Come to our weekly meeting this Wednesday, 7 PM in Rocky 1 to learn all about it!

A presentation and discussion will be led by Carrie Colla, Ph. D and professor at the Dartmouth Medical School. Here's further information:

Dr. Carrie Colla is Assistant Professor at The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice at Dartmouth Medical School and an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics. She is a health economist specializing in health insurance markets, insurance benefit design, provider payment, and the care and needs of the elderly. Some of her recent work examines the effectiveness of a payment and delivery system reform, Accountable Care Organizations. She received her A.B. from Dartmouth College and an M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley

presentation title: The Affordable Care Act: Understanding the Potential Effects of Health Reform

The 2010 Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act makes sweeping changes to health care financing, delivery, and access. The law includes an employer mandate to provide health benefits, an individual mandate to maintain health insurance, the introduction of health insurance exchanges and an expansion of Medicaid, and delivery system and payment reforms such as Accountable Care Organizations. Professor Colla will briefly describe each of these provisions and discuss recent research on the efficacy of Accountable Care Organizations.

Best,

DSIE
