*Are you here this FALL?*

*Do you like TREES and TRAILS and FLAIR and WALKING FOR A LONG TIME?*

*Are you a '20 and want to hike the summer 50?*

*Do you like to lead and manage people?*

*Do you love logistics?*

*Have you ever stayed awake for three days straight?*

*DO YOU LOVE THE FIFTY??*

*DO YOU WANT TO MAKE IT EVEN MORE WONDERFUL??*

If any of this sounds appealing to you, *APPLY TO DIRECT THE FIFTY 17F!!!!!*

Directing the Fifty is an exhilarating, rewarding, overall incredible
experience-- the Fifty is one of Dartmouth's wildest, most awesome
traditions, as teams of hikers embarking on a wild journey support one
another through sweat, blood, tears, blisters, and potentially
hallucinations, with groups of more students providing them with love and
support as they go. As a director, you get to help make all of that happen,
and meet and work with a bunch of really great people along the way!

Some information:

The Fifty is directed by three students, who work an average of ten hours a
week (increasing as the event grows nearer) to select and prepare hikers
and supporters, and handle the multitude of logistical operations that go
towards making it possible.

If you want to take on this role, you have a couple of options:

(1) Respond to this email by *Monday, September 11 at 11:59pm* stating your
INDIVIDUAL interest and commitment to directing the event. In this case,
you will be considered as an individual applicant and if selected, you will
be paired with other qualified individual applicants. Past experience with
the DOC, hiking the fifty, supporting the fifty, or being outside will all
be considered and appreciated! Please briefly mention any past experience
with the 50 or directing outdoors events.

(2) Respond to this email by *Monday, September 11 at 11:59pm* with
*two* others
who you would like to direct with (make sure that these two peers, CC'd on
your email, are 100% committed to directing) - in this case, your group
will be considered based on group merit. If you are a group of 3* at least
one of you must have already hiked the fifty before, and at least one of
you must have supported the fifty before. *Please briefly mention any past
experience with the 50 or directing outdoors events that individuals in
your team have had.

After you respond stating your interest, we will be in touch with
you regarding a (casual) (please don't be scared) interview process to move
forward with the selection process. Other than mentioning past experiences
there is no written application, but please please only respond to this
email if you're committed to directing the 50. Again, this is a
commitment that will take at least 10 hours a week, with increasing time
commitment as the 50 approaches. ONLY APPLY IF YOUR FALL SCHEDULE
CAN HANDLE THIS.

A few more things to remember:
-you must be in Hanover this fall in order to direct The Fifty, but you
don't need to be taking classes.

-as 50 directors, you are unpaid-- it's entirely volunteer. However, in
addition to getting to take part in an incredible experience, directing the
Fifty allows you to forgo the lottery and automatically hike it in the
future.

-you can only direct the 50 once.

Once again, please reply with your committed interest by August 20th at
midnight so we can start scheduling interviews!!

We look forward to hearing from you, and don't hesitate to reach out to us
individually or on this account with any questions you might have.

Best,

Eric Brunner, Ivan Cornish, Anna Ellis, and Emma Miller – 17X Directorate
