Sidney L. Kasfir, Heilbrun Distinguished Emeritus Fellow and Professor Emerita, Art History Department, Emory University, will be lecturing at the Hood Museum of Art on Wednesday, February 4th. While on campus, she would like to have lunch with interested students to discuss conceptions of masculinity, African art and art history, and her academic and career trajectory. "From Spears to Kalashnikovs: Warrior Theatre and the Construction of Masculinity in the North Rift, Kenya"

Dr. Kasfir will trace the meaning of the spear in the definition of masculinity and the gradual change from spears to guns as a result of the flow of illegal weapons out of neighboring Somalia and South Sudan.
