"Five Projects Since Schneebett"
Enrique Martínez Celaya

Tuesday, July 15, 2014
4:30 p.m.
Hood Auditorium

"Some children dream of being physicists, and some children dream of being artists, but growing up to be a physicist, pursuing a Ph.D. in quantum electronics and then deciding to create art is arguably a rare path. For Enrique Martínez Celaya, July's featured artist at the Hood Museum of Art and a Montgomery Fellow at the College, lasers have been as much a part of his work as painting and sculpture. "

Enrique Martínez Celaya works in painting, sculpture, photography and writing to create large installations, or environments, that probe the big questions of life. The New York Times says, "The questions [Enrique Martinez Celaya explores in painting (and his related writings) belong to religion and philosophy: the meaning of life and death, the purpose of consciousness and what it means to be or do good."
