Hi there :)

It’s Epsilon Kappa Theta—your friendly neighborhood Greek house at the end of frat row. And we have an announcement: EKT is parting ways with the Inter-Sorority Council (ISC) and officially becoming a fully gender-inclusive house!

How did we come to this decision?

  * We’re already (proudly!) so much more gender-diverse than our sorority label.

  * We feel that “women and non-binary” rush requirements contradict our core values to provide marginalized students with a home base on campus. We believe that spaces constructed around the “domination” of any particular group often wrongly assume a universality of experiences within that group and draw hegemonic borders around who does and doesn’t belong.

  * After numerous mediated conversations over the past terms, we held and surpassed a supermajority vote in 24W to transition out of the ISC.

TLDR: Starting now (24S!), anyone, regardless of gender identification, may join EKT. However, we realize that inclusivity demands more than an institutional affiliation. As such, we are committed to the following provisions:

  * Sticking by our Continuous Open Bidding recruitment strategy and our 100% financial aid policy.

  * Welcoming positive and healthy masculinity in all forms and making space for members to explore gender in its expansiveness and fluidity.

  * Community-building with value-aligned spaces on campus—for instance, promoting duo-affiliation with other Greek spaces and engaging in mutual aid with campus organizing groups.

To anyone who has felt justifiably othered by our historical alignment as a house, we are sorry. We are devoted to a future for EKT that intentionally and uncompromisingly supports students of all marginalized positions and beyond in our collective stay here at Dartmouth.

ThetaLove,

Greyson Xiao (he/they) – President
