This is New Hampshire Audubon’s Rare Bird Alert for Wednesday, October 30th. 
2013.



A male CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRD has been seen and photographed visiting 
hummingbird birdfeeders at a private residence in Manchester since October 
6th. It was most recently reported on October 30th.



A PACIFIC LOON was seen on the coast off of Odiorne Point State Park in Rye 
on October 27th. A RED-THROATED LOON and 12 COMMON LOONS were also present 
in the same general area.



A GREATER WHITE FRONTED GOOSE continues to be seen with CANADA GEESE on Main 
Street just below the 12th Street bridge in Berlin and was most recently 
reported on October 28th.



2 SANDHILL CRANES were seen in the fields along Plains Road in Monroe on 
October 26th. These birds have been present since the summer.



A SHORT-EARED OWL was seen migrating over Pack Monadnock in Peterborough on 
October 27th, and 1 was seen migrating off of Ragged Neck in Rye on the 
26th.



A LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER was seen in Meadow Pond in Hampton on October 27th. 
Also present were 81 GREATER YELLOWLEGS.



A GOLDEN EAGLE and a ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK were seen by hawk watchers from atop 
Pack Monadnock in Peterborough on October 16th. Also noted were 2 SNOW 
BUNTINGS.



4 SNOW BUNTINGS were seen from Carter Hill in Concord on October 26th.



An ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER and a NASHVILLE WARBLER were seen in Hillsborough 
on October 28th.



2 NORTHERN SHOVELERS and 14 RUDDY DUCKS were seen at the Exeter Wastewater 
Treatment Plant on October 26th.



9 GADWALL were seen migrating along the coast on October 26th.



A RED-BREASTED MERGANSER was seen on Long Pond in Concord on October 24th.



A HORNED GREBE was seen on Upper Baker Pond in Orford on October 26th.



2 PURPLE SANDPIPERS were seen along the coast in Rye on October 26th.



A flock of 28 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS was seen in Pittsfield on October 25th.



An EVENING GROSBEAK was reported from Hanover on October 25th.



Several FOX SPARROWS were reported during the past week.



A PEREGRINE FALCON was seen in Dover on October 24th.



RAPTOR migration is under way with over 10,400 migrating raptors reported 
from the Pack Monadnock Raptor Migration Observatory in Peterborough, and 
over 11,000 reported from the Carter Hill Observatory in Concord, all since 
September 1st. Be sure to visit these New Hampshire Audubon sponsored 
observatories this fall season to help out with the count!
