Vermont Reads 2011 – To Kill A Mockingbird

The classic novel To Kill a Mockingbird was published 51 years ago, but still has deep meaning for modern America. In collaboration with the Vermont Humanities Council Vermont Reads program, VPR takes a close look at this enduring story and the issue of race relations. VPR News will examine this issue during a weeklong series on Morning Edition and All Things Considered. Listen for interviews, commentaries, excerpts from the book and stories starting on Monday, May 2. And on Wednesday, May 4, VPR’s Vermont Edition will air live from a local high school to hear students talk about the book and race relations in Vermont.

		Update

Budget Bill Preserves CPB Funding (for now)

You may have heard by now that federal funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which was on the chopping block, was preserved through September. Although this is great news, ongoing threats to federal funding are anticipated as Congress begins to tackle the FY12 budget. Read VPR CEO Robin Turnau’s update to learn how you can stay involved.

		 In Case You Missed It...

Last week VPR’s series, “Vital Signs,” focused on healthcare in Vermont. The series took an in-depth look at the issues through news reports, commentaries, blog posts, listener comments and special guests and conversations on Vermont Edition. For your convenience, we’ve collected all of the stories in a special section of our website at VPR.net.
