We were able to fight off the proposal that we cut both Spanish and French programs at our institution. We made a successful counter-proposal and I resigned my position as lab director to teach Full-time French, beginning this Fall. As many states Florida has experienced financial short cuts, and one of the solutions is to cut spending on university programs. In response the administration at Florida State University has published a list of programs to be cut, and it includes German and Slavic. If you feel that such cuts are also a threat to the work and mission of CALICO, please read and hopefully sign these petitions: German: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/33/protect-the-german-program-at-fsu Slavic: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/31/protect-the-slavicrussian-program-at-fsu The German and the Slavic Divisions are grateful for your support.
