This is actually a very common problem, so it's a good one to research on
the web. I used the search "pinyin tone microsoft xp" in google and got lots
of relevant links. One led me to this page...

It's not always straightforward, though. According to your setup, results
may vary. For instance, in this page's discussion I can't read his "third
tones" no matter which language I select for encoding in IE6. But maybe if I
opened the html page in word or firefox, it would work!
