We use audacity, http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

Note you have to download the LAME MP3 Encoder Library
http://mitiok.free.fr/  The first time you export your file as an mp3,
audacity will ask you where it is.  After that it does everything
automatically.

Can anyone recommend a reliable, inexpensive, even free program for
recording MP3 files of student speaking exercises?  Sound Recorder is nice
in its limited way, but it only accepts a maximum of 60 seconds.
