Hello Rita:

Go and check out Audacity  at  http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
It's free, it's nifty, and it runs on all platforms.  You need to download
a special plug-in to create MP3s (the so-called LAME MP3 Encoder Library),
it is all wonderfully transparent and well explained both on the site and
in the manual...
