* Summer Research Program at University of Virginia *

Dartmouth ’06 graduate and WISP alumnae, Dr. Kathleen McManus let us
know about a summer research program at the University of Virginia (UVa)
called the Minority Health International Research Training Program.

This program involves an analysis of global rural health disparities
using an interdisciplinary approach to appreciate the complexity of
global health and disease. This highly competitive program offers
under-represented minority students training and professional
development experience, which facilitates more desirable applications to
graduate training and professional schools. Selected candidates will
work with mentors at one of several international partner sites
including Uganda, South Africa, and St. Kitts and Nevis.

The program includes a weekend research retreat at UVa in late winter/early
spring, a 3-5 day pre-departure week at UVa before you travel to your
international partner site, 8 weeks participating in a mentored summer
research experience at one of our international partner sites, followed
by a debrief back at UVa with an intensive week of data analysis,
writing, and presentations.

The application will be available in mid-October and the application
deadline is January 3, 2018. More information about the program can be
found here: https://globalhealth.virginia.edu/mhirt or you can contact
Dr. McManus at [log in to unmask]
