With all the observations of C. Nighthawks being reported, I have
been keeping an eye on the sky around dusk. On the drive home from
Bradley Thursday around 7 PM, I glanced up into the sky just north of
Rt. 2 in Massachusetts and there was a nighthawk flycatching above
the road. It was the first time I have seen one while driving along
the highway. There seems to be either a lot more nighthawks around
or their migration route has shifted. I haven't seen so many since
Dartmouth turned the lights off of Baker Library in 1974 during the
first energy crisis.
