So once a year (June 4th- June 12th) I do a USGS Bird census. My 15th
year. I inherited the route from Kyle Jones. Mike Choukas did the route
originally.
Starts in Post Mills at 4:38. Wiggle-waggles around Lake Fairlee, Rt5, back
roads to 113, 91 overpass, down Godfrey into Norwich.. Un Vill Rd to
Turnpike and ends past Huntley Meadows. At ~ 9:15.
I am usually in the 55-65 species range. 57 today.
Highlights: 1st Red-bellied Woodpecker. 1 Blackpoll W. 1 Louisiana
Waterthrush, 1 Marsh Wren, 1 Red-tail.
1 (2 ?) co. Loons at head of L Fairlee. Nesting ??
Pine Warblers, No. Parulas, BtBW and BtNw's, Ovenbirds etc... Eastern
Wood-Peewees, Great-crested Fly.
35 of the 50 stops had Red-eyed Vireos (some had 2) ! (37 last year). 1
stop had no birds (a 1st) (Thetford I-91 overpass).
1 Ba Oriole, 1 Sc Tanager. No Rose-br Grosbeaks.
