Once a year many folks from across the US do a BB survey route. 24.5 miles,
50 stops, ½ mile apart.
For the most part the data is collected audially. Helps if the weather is
clear, and not windy. I try for Sunday mornings as there is less traffic,
not this year.
My route starts at 4:38am. This is related to sunrise. Same time every year.
Mike Choukas and Kyle Jones have done this route. Takes about 5 hours.
Yesterday was a good day: 60 species. Highlights: 1 TuVu sunning in a
pine, pretty close. 1 Am Bittern. Alder and Willow Flycatchers. No
Great-crested.
1 Ea. Bluebird. Few Bobolinks. But 39 of the 50 stops had Red-eyed Vireos
(they are persistent and song does carry). Pine, Blackburnian, redstarts,
BandW warblers.
Nothing like a good morning birding !!
