Here's what VT Fish and Wildlife has to say; see the section that says "Let's Avoid Conflict".

Only if you can put it where the bear cannot reach. We have 1-2 bears that patrol our yard on a nightly basis.

I frequently forget to put my birdfeeder out in the AM and on occasion, accidently leave it out over night.

As bears have surely been up and about for a while now, is it safe to put it up and leave it up?

Thanks,
J
