Ben,

I bet it was a crow the barred owl caught. Raven are very large birds, about the
size of a red tailed hawk. Barred owls have small talons for their size, too
small to hold a struggling raven. A great horned owl is large-taloned owl and
could and probably does, on rare occasions, nab a raven.
