Yup, its fall, and that means getting ready for the winter visitors
to your feeders. AMAS will hold its first bird seed sale of the
season this coming Saturday, Oct. 3. We will be at the same location
as in the recent past: Woodbury Florist and Gifts on Rt. 106 (River
Rd) in Springfield with a selection of seed types (sunflower, mixed,
thistle, etc.). The hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., but we recommend
coming early if possible because we sometimes run out. Contact Bunni
Putnam (802-886-8430) if you have questions.
Proceeds from our 3 or 4 sales per year provide a significant part of
our annual operating funds, so please come and stock up!
Bird feeding tip: Keep your feeders clean. If you didn't clean your
feeders when you took them down in the spring - or if you haven't
taken them down - now is a good time to do so. Use a 10% solution of
household bleach in water (1 part bleach to 9 parts water) to clean
them and let them soak a while. Then rinse thoroughly and allow to
dry completely before adding seed. It is best to do this at least
monthly during the season. This is part of being a responsible
feeder. For more information, visit Audubon at Home
(<http://www.audubon.org/bird/at_home/bird_feeding/>http://www.audubon.org/bird/at_home/bird_feeding/).
