Come and see Vermont’s newest state park: Muckross State Park in Springfield, VT. The park has a beautiful waterfall that should be in fine form after all the rain this week!

Press Release:
Sunday, July 29, 2018, 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Explore with experts and learn about the flora and fauna of both Hoyt’s Landing and Muckross State Park in Springfield, Vermont. Stay for an hour or pack a lunch and stay for the day! Learn about birds, trees, ferns, mushrooms, amphibians, reptiles, flowers, insects, and so much more — many displays will be up at both locations and experts will be on hand to introduce you to the wildlife and woodlands. Bring your camera, binoculars, and/or smartphone if you’d like to take photos and upload them to iNaturalist to help the BRAT build an “”inventory”” of scientifically-confirmed species at both locations.

An “early bird walk” is planned for Muckross State Park with the Ascutney Mountain Audubon Society from 7-8 AM (plan to carpool, parking is at the Park & Ride at Exit 7); bring your own boat to paddle for one of the aquatic plant sessions or dragonfly excursions on the water at Hoyt’s Landing.

A mushroom tour and a tree tour at Muckross will also be happening, as well as an exciting “”after-dark”” session at Hoyt’s Landing starting at 9 PM (bring a UV flashlight if you have one, and your camera!).

Lots of events are happening and changing, so tune in to the Black River Action Team’s Facebook Events Page for updates and details: https://www.facebook.com/BlackRiverActionTeam/ <https://www.facebook.com/BlackRiverActionTeam/>

Location: Leave your car at the Park & Ride at Exit 7 off I91 and pick up the BioBlitz Shuttle, courtesy of Butler’s Bus. The shuttle will run from 10 am till 3 pm between Muckross, the Park & Ride, and Hoyt’s Landing and back again.

What to Bring: Camera, notepad, binoculars, smartphone, good walking shoes, insect repellent, sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses.

Cost: This event is free, but a $10 donation per person/family is welcomed, to offset the cost of the shuttle bus that will be running all day between Hoyt's Landing and Muckross State Park. Black River Action Team (BRAT) thanks you for your donation with a complimentary cinch sack and button; button-wearers earn VIP "swag," so display that button prominently!
