Hi Amy,

I'll leave it to the experts to respond but it looks to me as though you have just described a yellow-rumped or what we used to call a myrtle warbler.

Subject: [UVB] Warbler mystery

This morning, I saw a warbler that I thought was a yellow-rumped, but it didn’t have the black cheek patch...it was more of a bold black stripe from the eye to the beak. Could it be I was looking at a subspecies? It had a lovely bright yellow spot on the top of its head, yellow rump and yellow sides, but a white throat. Also, it was fluttering around my bird feeders, periodically landing on them, as if trying to figure out why all the other birds were hanging out on them. It was traveling with siskins and goldfinches. With the gold Mohawk, could there be other candidates?
Thanks for any other thoughts!
