I spent some time this morning at Indian Pond studying the Red Crossbills
that continue there. Interestingly, some friends of mine that live a bit
farther north on Indian Pond Road in Piermont had Red Crossbills
periodically throughout the summer. I was interested to see them foraging
among the many white pine cones, possibly suggesting that they might be one
of the larger billed types. I have only previously seen them in spruce
trees. They were not vocalizing as much as the last time I was there, not
allowing me to study the calls.
