Teleste Educational June´99 Newsletter
Dear Reader,
We at Teleste Educational would like to welcome you to the first of
what we anticipate to be both an informative and an enjoyable series
of ongoing monthly newsletters. We are hoping that this will serve
both as a space to present ways to further your productive use of
educationally based software, and as a forum to share the ideas of
those involved in a broad spectrum of education-related fields.
It is an exciting time to be involved with "computers".
Information and communication technology has reached many far corners
of the educational world, causing many changes and shifts of both
attitudes and paradigms.
We trust that you are working to make your learning environment
as productive and interesting as possible, and we are offering this
newsletter as a means of bringing ideas together. As such, we
welcome and encourage you to send feedback, your opinions, remarks,
ideas, and any questions you might have about how others use the
tools you have at your disposal. By doing so, you will be letting us
know how to help make this newsletter serve you and your needs in the
best way possible.
A little bit about the format: We will be creating the
newsletter
with two different readers in mind. Firstly, considering those of
you who have used Teleste Educational products but who still have
questions. As with any educational tool, one´s own imagination is
the greatest means of developing good lessons, presentations, or
communications. We will thus be attempting to open up all avenues of
thought in order to create a helpful "glossary of uses". Your input
is much appreciated, as you all have valuable working experience
which can be of benefit to others.
Secondly, we will be including some technically-oriented
information for those of you who will be more interested in these
specific aspects. Here also, we encourage you to give us feedback, as
technical insights anticipate the improvement of existing products
and the development of future products.
As a footnote to this first introductory letter we would like
to
introduce some insights into our digital audio and video recorder,
Divace.
Divace gives you full digital programming capability. But what does
this mean? And what are Divace´s distinguishing features?
"Text Synchronisation", for example, is one of the most
interesting features of Divace. This implies more than just adding
subtitles to an audio or video recording, even though that in itself
gives you the interesting possibility of putting whatever text or
words you want to be seen concurrently with a video or an audio
recording. Subtitles in other languages, vocabulary practice,
questions to the viewer which they can reply to by typing in their
own subtitles or recording their own voice.
What else? Digital recordings from your laptop, which you can play
back
immediately while typing in notes to yourself for later expansion.
Extracting audio from the internet and typing in source notes. Notes
for lesson plans. Ideas to develop. Sharing audio recordings and
notes via web sites in order to develop a program or presentation
with someone else.
But this is what future newsletters will deal with: possibilities.
These begin with questions and comments about ideas you might have,
and can and will be as detailed as necessary to assure that you use
tools like Divace to your full advantage.
Also, if you know of anyone else, colleagues or friends, who might be
interested in receiving or contributing to this forum, please have
them send correspondence, along with their e-mail address so that
they can be a part of future newsletters. If you do not wish to
receive future newsletters, please let us know, using the formatted
document below.
Thank you again for joining us here. Have an enjoyable summer.
We hope to be hearing from you! We will be putting out a full-length
newsletter in August.
If you do not want to receive these newsletters from Teleste
Educational, please send email to [log in to unmask] with
