I just had came back from an official visit to the Southeastern Louisiana
University campus. Their "Faculty Productivity Center" (with lots of
production equipment, under the very capable and even visionary direction
of their coordinator, Ravi Lallianpur. You can visit the
Southeastern Louisiana University Technology
http://www.selu.edu/techno.html
to see their link and find out what are the other campus technology
concerns. Thei work very well with the "Office of Technology" folks on
campus.
The office of the "Productivity Center" helps faculty organize what they
would like to do teachologically, finds a good set of teachological
options, helps the faculty member chose an option, teaches the faculty
member how to produce that option and provided the right production
equipment and guidance. The coordinator learns a lot from faculty, keeps
track of what he learns, has a program for faculty to exchange ideas, etc.
And he assists faculty applying for grants.
From an outsider's point of view (like mine), it looks good.
