Hi Mike,

The technique Clayton mentioned has been our method for processing FlipCam video content in the past too, although increasingly we’re using LLC iPods and student’s personal devices.  We generally connect FlipCams to a Mac (or PC), pull the MP4 files directly off the device, and then manipulate the video as necessary before posting to YouTube or Vimeo.  Quicktime and iMovie work great for any format conversion you may need to do prior to posting.
