CALL FOR PAPERS -- Language Technology

Language Technology is now in its second year as an official section of
the Kentucky Foreign Language Conference! After last year's successful
inaugural run of 24 papers and 2 special sessions, Language Technology
is back for the 60th anniversary of the KFLC. The conference will take
place 19-21 April 2007 on the campus of the University of Kentucky in
Lexington.

Abstracts are invited in all areas and aspects of technology and
language including, but certainly not limited to:

- using tech tools and techniques for language instruction in all skills
and on all levels
- integrating technology into literature, culture and linguistics classrooms
- employing technology-based research and publication in language
scholarship
- guiding language educators toward optimal use of technology in their
teaching and research
- managing language technology in an academic setting

In addition to individual abstracts, proposals will be considered for
complete panels of five papers organized around a common theme.

The KFLC has a tradition of attracting scholars from a broad range of
languages and specializations. This year's conference will have
sessions in Arabic, French, German, Italian, Luso-Brazilian, Slavic, and
Spanish studies, as well as Language for the Professions. We would also
like to see this broad range represented in the Language Technology
sessions, to encourage cross-pollination of ideas among the individual
languages and disciplines working to integrate technology into their
teaching and research programs, and to encourage participants from the
various literature, culture and linguistics sessions to join us in our
discussions.

Abstracts should be no more than one page in length and should include
author's name, affiliation and contact coordinates. Panel proposals
should include on a single sheet the theme of the panel, the organizer's
name and contact information, and the names and affiliations of the
panel participants (all abstracts should be assembled by the panel
organizer and submitted with the panel proposal). In view of the
multi-language audience that we hope to attract to all Language
Technology sessions, the recommended language of presentation is English.

Deadline for submission of abstracts and panel proposals is 15 November
2006.

All proposed abstracts and panels will be considered for inclusion in
the KFLC program. Acceptance of a paper or complete panel implies a
commitment on the part of the participant(s) to register and attend the
conference. All presenters must pay the appropriate registration fee by
15 February 2007 to be included in the program.

For more information on conference logistics, please visit
http://www.uky.edu/as/kflc/. For specific information on the Language
Technology sessions and to submit LT abstracts and panel proposals,
contact the LT section leader at the coordinates listed below.

We look forward to seeing you in beautiful springtime Kentucky for the
continuation of an exciting new addition to the Kentucky Foreign
Language Conference!

Mark Lauersdorf
